A Sad Day

Part owner and breeder of Khamsin Warrior, Eddie Cassar, reports some tragic news. Coquette, the 14 yo broodmare who foaled KW in 2005 has passed away.
Eddie says, "Just when KW is ready to have his 1^st start his 14yo dam COQUETTE, recently served by “Not A Single Doubt” had to be put down today after a failed repeat operation for strangulated bowel. Hopefully KW will leave a legacy to his lovely mum!! "

About the Name

"Khamsin" is Arabic for "fifty" and is the name given to the hot, strong, violent winds that sweep across the Sahara Desert from Libya and Egypt for about 50 days each year.

In 'Khamsin' by Clinton Scollard he says about the wind,

'It blasted the buds on the almond bough,
And shrivelled the fruit on the orange tree'
'The tiny fledgling died in the nest;
The sick babe gasped at the mother's breast.
Then a rumour rose and swelled and spread
From a tremulous whisper, faint and vague,
Till it burst in a terrible cry of dread,
The plague, the plague, the plague.
Oh the wind, Khamsin,
The scourge from the desert, blew in'

There is also a "Maserati Khamsin" Italian sports car
